Carthage City Rules

YOU MUST READ THESE RULES BEFORE CONTINUING ANY FURTHER. Ignorance or claiming you haven't read these rules is not a valid excuse.

By entering Carthage, you agree that you obey the rules of Carthage and you agree to allow the use of chat logs by sim owners, GM's and administrative staff for the sole purpose of determining game rule violations. Logs will never be used in any fashion except in sim administrative situations.

* You agree that you will follow the instructions given by the Carthage Staff who can be identified by the “GM” or the “Carthage GM (OOC)” above their head.

This sim is meant for you to have fun. Please read these rules and help eliminate the chaos of a virtual world. In general, common sense should be used to guide you as participate in the Carthage Sim. Rule #1 is: "You have NO right to be an asshole and should have fun here, as well as letting others have fun. Play fair!" Playing in the Carthage Sim is a privilege not a right.

Carthage is a Bloodlines friendly sim and allows that the bloodlines system be used as a tool to enhance roleplay. Spamming bites is frowned upon and if it becomes a repeated issue … can be means for being banned from the sim.

1. The official language of the sims is English so you HAVE to communicate in English. You can use a translator like Metanomics, you can find a free translators at the citys landing point on the boat.

2. No camping, no flying, no jump enhancers, no orbiting or caging. No modern vehicles, or anything that causes massive amounts of lag. That means no poofers in the arena and limited use of teleport effects. No mass destructions weapons (C4, explosives, …)

a. Gestures can be a fun enhancement to role play. Please use them appropriately and rarely. Do not spam gestures or sounds repeatedly as this disrupts role play and is annoying.

b. Do not rez cars or other vehicles in the city.Carthage is a no fly zone. Do not use flight defeating gadgets in the sim.

Wearable horses is allowed.

***A vehicle is defined as any object that uses the physics engine to drive it (i.e. cars, motorcycles, trucks, chocobos, magic carpets, hover platforms, etc), rather than an object that attaches to the avatar. If you are uncertain whether or not the object you wish to use is a vehicle, please contact a GM for help in determining the difference! Please keep also keep in mind the timeline the sim is situated in.

3. It is required that you wear either an observer tag OR a CCS combat meter while you are in Carthage. You must wear a CCS combat meter to take part in combat or role play. If you are wearing an observer tag, please do not interrupt role play or combat. If you see someone without a observer tag or CCS combat meter please tell them friendly that they must wear one and help them to get one. 􀀀

4. If you are wearing a CCS combat meter and engaging in role play/combat you are expected (not required) to be dressed in a medieval, post apocalyptic or goth style. That is the time line of Carthage.

5. All RP is consensual. All TOS of Second Life apply here. We are a Dark roleplay sim and all kind of sexual roleplay is allowed as long as no age-play in any form is involved and the roleplay is done in consent of both parties. If you don't know the other party you want to start a sexual RP with, please get consent in IM BEFORE you start the roleplay. Doing this will avoid unnecessary drama.

6. Combat in the tavern is NOT ALLOWED, the tavern is for pure Role-Play purposes, if you want to fight, go outside.

7. The fighting ground has a small area which (Citys main square) can be used as a sparring and learning place where OOC is tolerated. Being OOC means you can talk out of character without (( )) to facilitate combat training, Role Play and CCS learning. It does not mean you can break the rules. Look at it as a combat and role play academy. When you are fighting or engaged in a role play it is forbidden to use the heal items located there. Never interrupt others RP.

8. OOC insulting, racist, intolerant, … behavior, is NOT allowed. OOC actions and behaviors that create unnecessary tensions and drama in RP, bringing OOC dramas or OOC animosity to RP is strictly prohibited. Failure to observe these rules will lead to immediate sanctions. No warning and no discussion will occur.

9. Child avatars are allowed but only on request and approval, for information ask Cross Voight or any GM.

10. Nudity, sex, Capture, rape is allowed, we are a dark rp sim but always respect others' rp limits… DONT FORCE THIS !

11. Absolutely no sex based age role play allowed ( this mean no sex between child avators ). PERIOD. NO ARGUMENTS. Breaking these rules is grounds for an immediate ban!

13. Bows, Cross bows, old guns are allowed but only when they are old style so DONT use automatic guns or other modern shooting weapons !

15. No Godmodding
This is, pretending to be all powerful, attacking people for no reason, and forcing RP upon people, an example of it :
"Person attacks a girl with a blade, shoving it through her heart and watches her die."
This is an example of godmoding, give people a chance to react back. The right way for this is :
"Person ATTEMPTS to attack a girl with a blade and TRIES to shove it through her heart."
If you are seen, or reported of godmoding, you will be given a warning, if again, a second warning and a 6h ban from the sim, and if again, a 3 day ban from the sim

16. Poaching
Poaching is the act of going into a community and deliberately trying to pull players from said community in order to strengthen another, this is NOT TOLERATED and will be severely sanctioned. We expect that people from other factions, other sims and other combat systems would not poach from us and in return we expect the same of our players and staff when visiting other sims.

Internal poaching within the sim is not allowed either. Attempting to pull people from one faction into your own in an IC or OOC manner is strictly against the rules. Faction hopping in general is frowned upon but it does happen and when it does it needs to be strictly the player’s decision to leave one faction and join another. To help avoid drama, when accepting a new member into your faction, who was just in another, you should OOCly speak to the leader of that faction and make sure they know, as a courtesy.

Please note that cross-sim RP among players and factions is encouraged to expand upon the RP possibilities and to assist in providing a fun and diverse playing environment throughout the CCS community.

1. No combat without some form of RP first. Do not remove or turn off your combat meter during fights or after you have been defeated, OR if you believe you are about to be attacked. If you wear a CCS combat meter, you are a valid target at all times. Role playing is required before combat. If you attack someone, you NEED to have a valid IC reason. Explanations like "He looks ugly" are not acceptable. Carthage is a roleplay sim and not a combat sim. Don't attack people who are non combative or com-off.

2. Explosives, invisible shields (force fields) EVEN if CCS approved are NOT allowed. Approved CCS enhanced weapons and shields are allowed as long they fit the medieval style. A shield counts as a weapon (cf : 2 weapons rule 18). If you have a doubt about your weapon, contact a Carthage GM.

Ranged weapons like crossbows, bows or old style guns ( no moderns automatic machine guns) are allowed in Carthage !

3. No CAMPING (being afk for 10 minutes with the meter running) use /9 OFF to go non combative while afk.

4. No FLYING, no jump enhancers, flash steps, jump assists, SI blade special moves, flight assists, wall climbers, teleports, are to be used in combat. Using these enhancements is prohibited. No AO's which allow you to move faster than a normal av without an AO would allow.

5. Combatants defeated who are revived by an ally may resume fighting.

6. Combatants who die and are revived naturally by CCS may resume fighting.

7. Combatants who crash during combat may resume fighting only ONCE. At the second crash you have to go non combative using /9 OFF and are out of combat. When logging back after the first crash you have to SHOUT : ((Crashed, Rezzing)) and 60 seconds after this you are a target again. Do NOT turn your CCS OFF. When logging back after the second crash you have to SHOUT : ((Crashed twice, Out of combat)) and turn your CCS OFF.

8. Turning your CCS OFF for ANY reason during combat means you are OUT of combat and you are not allowed to turn it ON again until the end of the fight with exception to a meter bug error.

Meter Bug Error/Interference:
You continue the fight, you are not out of fight and not out of RP.

9. It is NOT allowed to use heal items in battle. NO Modern revive items such as Second chance

10. Defeated enemies may be taken captive but everyone's personal RP limits must be respected. ( Carthage capture limit is 3 days max ).

11. Captives who are imprisoned may not escape unless freed by there clan /allies or other people. Even if the prison is not guarded. You do not have to remain in the prison indefinitely, but you may not rp in the sim and you should be available when RP resumes.

12. Everyone RPs differently. Tolerance and patience must prevail.

13. No teleporting into or out of combat. TP'ing people or other faction members into an area where all involved KNOW that a fight is going to start is not allowed. Nor is tp'ing people into a fight once it's started. *Your people or faction MUST enter the combat area by foot ON THEIR OWN!!!*

14. No attacking while someone is rezzing.

15. Revive
Race based auto revive : You pop up and get killed it is not corpse camping. By using an ability to revive you have become a threat again and the standard you wear a ccs you are a target rule applies.
Revived by non-enemy : You get killed again NOT corpse camping. Same as above, you are put back into combat.
Natural revive : This is when the CCS revives any race due to the time running.

If someone stands around you, not role playing, waiting for you to revive just to kill you again. This is corpse camping

16. Absolutely NO OOC insults.

17. You can fight with 2 weapons, one in each hand, such as:
- Double swords ( these count as two weapons )
- Melee (ex : Streetfighter, Fist of …) and one sword
- One sword and a shield
- One bow and one sword
- Cross bow and one sword
- etc.

ABSOLUTELY NO MORE ! please check if you are wearing a two handed weapon such as a crossbow that you DO NOT have any other weapons on such as fists also

Metagaming (using OOC information and bringing it IC) is FORBIDDEN
Do not use OOC info like avatar names, faction tags, CCS race, class or level unless you have learned these details IC.
Reading avatar names or tags and attacking them based on that information is metagaming.
Reading avatar's profiles to see what their role play limits are is NOT considered metagaming.
Using scanners IS metagaming. REMOVE ALL YOUR SCANNING DEVICES, CHAT RANGE DETECTORS and similar attachments.

The following applies to those who are participating in a fight or merely observing one taking place.
When calling for help during or after a fight the act of calling for help must be OBVIOUS and PREVENTABLE in some fashion.
The only way of communicating with a fellow faction member is to talk to them face to face.
To inform some of your faction members who are in another sim that you need help, you have to go back in arrival room without being killed, TP out once there, search some help and come back with them.
The use of "telepathy", other supernatural abilities, bizarre powers, carrier pigeon and other means to justify the use of personal IMs or Group IMs to summon help or to let others know of a fight is FORBIDDEN unless a GM approves it.

The Carthage Bell is an approved form to call for help. You must roleplay running to the bell and ringing it in open chat by shouting out the roleplay for all in the sim to hear before proceeding to ring the bell allowing that anyone wishing to might respond to stop you from gaining access to the bell. The Carthage bell will call out for help to the entire city upon being rang and can then be posted into the Carthage Army Group chat ONLY.

Any sort of combat is supposed to have a definite end with the consequences RP'd afterwards.
Fights are not supposed to go on endlessly as each side summons more and more reinforcements from factions and friends who are outside the sim doing other things or who just happen to get on line.

The victorious party should not be subjected to endless rescue missions as captured players use all sorts of means to continually let friends, family and factions know of their predicament.
Role playing defeat is not something to avoid but a means for your character to grow. Look upon defeat as a positive thing and use communication sensibly.

20. NO RP WITH ……. ( PERSON OR CLAN ) IN YOUR PROFILE ISNT ALLOWED, if you meet a person or a clan in Carthage who want to rp with you and you dont want it for privite reasons ( OOC ) just FADE TO BLACK ( see below ) and leave Carthage ( you can come back later ). A NO RP cannot be used to escape the consequences of your own actions or to interrupt an ongoing RP (See Fade to Black).

  • NO CLAN RP :

The NO CLAN RP between 2 Carthage clans is NOT ALLOWED. If you do not want to Role-Play with a Carthage clan, choose another sim for your base.

21. RP Awards:
RP awards can be given by the Sim GM and Admin for great RP within the sim. RP NCs can be sent to Thunder Balbozar for consideration of RP awards.

Note cards for inclusion in the RP awards Scheme must have the following criteria:
*It must be obvious or mentioned by places etc that it has taken part in Carthage.
*Sim rules are to be followed
*Players for inclusion must be named at the top of the participation NC for each RP.
*If it is a lengthy RP over several days please summarize at the top with names of players etc.
*Player who only include 1 line in a RP will NOT be given XP.
*RPs must be of a decent length to be included.
*The RP NC must include timestamps.

Any time you feel uncomfortable with an RP you may withdraw, BUT YOU MUST LEAVE THE SIM.
Use the Fade To Black by saying ((Fade to black)), go non combative (type /9 off) and leave the sim. Feel free to contact a GM if the RP needs to be discussed to make sure it does not go beyond Carthage rules. By fading to Black you have taken yourself out of the RP and may not come back to that RP without approval from all involved. Abusing the fade to black rule will result in disciplinary action. It is not a way to avoid having to do defeat RP. Keep in mind RP is for everyone, not just for you.

For any questions contact a GM

Camping means you are idling in the SIM, not participating in role play, either openly or in IMs, and basically just doing nothing to earn experience. THIS IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.
- If you are busy in IMs and unable to participate in open role play for more than 10 minutes then do /9 OFF to turn your CCS off or set yourself to AFK or BUSY which stops you from earning experience. This is meant for players just standing here and doing nothing at all except replying to the GMs AFK check in IM. This does NOT mean you have to turn your CCS OFF when you are not actively role playing or sparring, but it means you have to be ABLE to participate and to react. You are a Carthage citizen, not a Carthage statue.
- If you must go AFK for more than 10 minutes then do /9 OFF to turn your CCS off or set yourself to AFK or BUSY which stops you from earning experience.

RENTERS: You are free to chill out in your apartment but if you are going to be AFK for more than 10 minutes then please turn your CCS off.

Not replying to a GM AFK check within 10 minutes, or within 5 minutes after being GM killed by a drone, being idle and staying idle despite of the GM warning is severely sanctioned :

1st time : 1st time : You will get an official warning and your meter will be let running on reverse mode.
2nd time : You will dock 1000 of your experience and your meter will be let running on reverse mode.
3rd time : You will dock 25% of your experience and be banned from Carthage for 1 week.
4rd Time : You will dock 100% of your experience (Yes this is ALL your experience) and be banned from Carthage for life.

Carthage GMs have the right to adapt the sanctions regarding to the severity of the infraction.
Camping is a global CCS network offence, the number of offenses is not restrictive to Carthage chain but to all the CCS network.

Disputes between Players:
If you have a dispute with another player over the outcome of a fight, a RP or suspect another player of cheating, please be rational and remain calm. Mistakes do happen, no one is perfect, SL has many glitches and lag can cause many issues during combat. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ISSUE OOC; DO NOT MAKE PUBLIC ACCUSATIONS OF CHEATING. Contact a GM and discuss your issue with them, offer any proof that you may have (i.e. chat logs) of cheating. It is up to the GM to decide if any rule has been broken; there will be no arguing with GM's due to their rulings. If you have a problem following a GM decision please take it to a Sim Admin to deal with and do not argue with the GM there and then please. Entry to the sim and as such reading and understanding of these rules which are a condition of entry gives GM’s the allowance to read your logs and those of others for RP and GM purposes.

Reporting Issues:
Problems, questions and possible rule violations should be brought to the Carthage GM Staff. The staff will have 'GM" over their meter or wearing a “OOC Carthage GM tag. Be polite with the staff; explain your issue clearly in IM so it can be handled properly and quickly. If you have a problem with a GM in Carthage you may bring your issue to the Sim Admin, and it will be handled fairly and appropriately. GM Shopping will not be tolerated.

Calling a GM:
If you need a Carthage GM, use your GM call button on your CCS HUD. You may find the names of all Carthage GM on the GM board in the arena.

GM Shopping:
Decisions of a GM who has rendered a decision concerning a case or incident are final. If you feel the decision rendered is not fair, you may request the name of a Sim Administrator who will review the case. The Sim Administrator will either uphold or modify the decision based upon the evidence presented, and you will be advised of any further steps that you may take if you are again not happy with the result.

Seeking the counsel of any other GM during the process of case review is strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action. The process is in place for a reason and shall be strictly adhered to.

When a player requires the assistance of a GM, they are to utilize the GM call function located within the meter. Players are NOT to utilize their Friend's List or other means of calling a GM unless special circumstances apply, such as your having placed a GM call, to which nobody replies. Asking a friend to come and GM the matter instead of following protocol is strictly prohibited and can result in disciplinary action within this guideline. Manipulative behavior in an attempt to affect a favorable result for one's self will not be tolerated.
