Betelgeuse 5 Rules

Oº°‘¨¨‘°ºO FULL VERSION OF BETELGEUSE 5 RULES Oº°‘¨¨‘°ºO
------------

DUE TO CHANGES IN THE SECOND LIFE TERMS OF SERVICE YOU INHERENTLY AGREE, BY AGREEING TO ABIDE BY THESE RULES AND ENTERING BETELGEUSE 5, THAT YOU ARE OVER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN AND YOU ARE NOT OFFENDED BY VIOLENCE, ADULT LANGUAGE OR SEXUAL CONTENT. THE OWNERS OF B5 DEFER ALL RESPONSIBILITY BEYOND THIS AGREEMENT, IN LEGAL LIABILITIES, TO THE TRESPASSING PARTY, PARTIES NOT OVER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN ARE TRESPASSING AND THUS LEGALLY LIABLE FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS.

1.) You do not have a right to be an asshole. Treat others as you wished to be treated.

2.) CHILD AVATARS:
Child Avatars are not allowed. This is a ADULT sim, where adult things happen all day. If your avatar looks like a child you will be warned that you need to change it or you will get a permanent ban from B5. This is at the judgement of the B5 Staff.

3.) POACHING:
Poaching is the act of going into a community and deliberately trying to pull players from said community in order to strengthen another. We expect that people from other factions, other sims and other combat systems would not poach from us and in return we expect the same of our players and staff when visiting other sims.

4.) REZZING OBJECTS:
Rezzing objects is permitted because RP sometimes requires various props, objects, pose balls and so forth to be added to the sim. Objects left lying around the sim count against the overall prim limit of the sim and reduce the amount for others to use. So please pick them up when you're done using them. Auto return will be set at a respectable time limit, if you have need of a longer rez period for an ongoing roleplay, please speak with staff who will be more than happy to accomodate your needs. Persistent disregarding of this rule or rezzing a large number of objects will result in disciplinary action. This is not a building zone.

5.) MOVEMENT ENHANCERS:
No movement enhancers are allowed while in combat. No dashers, no flash steps, no gadgets that make you phantom, no jumpers or flight assists, wall climbers, etc. Using any form of enhanced movement or teleportation will result in disciplinary action.

6.) THE CCS METER:
You can get one for free where you teleport in. You MUST have a CCS meter equipped and on at all times. If you only want to observe, you can wear the observer-tag. In this case it's not allowed to get involved in any RP or combat on the sim.

Your CCS meter must be visable and readable when you are wearing it. Bright color and above your head.

Turning off, removing, or resetting your CCS meter is illegal during combat. Once all RP associated with the combat, is over, you may remove your meter if you wish. Removing your meter or resetting it during combat to avoid defeat or regain health, however, is not allowed and will result in punishment.

While in Betelgeuse 5, you may be the target of CCS combat anywhere at any time. There are no safezones. It is asked that you do not fight in the Landing Zone where people rezz and teleport in, but even that is not an actual safezone.

7.) CCS CAMPING:
Camping means you are not at your keyboard, not able to respond to those that approach you in roleplay or in combat. THIS IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. After 5 minutes of being unresponsive, your CCS will be detached and you will likely be ejected from the sim. A warning will be placed on your CCS database sheet and repeated camping offences will result in XP loss and eventually removal from CCS entirely.

Do not try to hide someplace out of the way in the sim or physically within the build (e.g. in walls, underground, up in the sky. If you aren't in a easily accessable/visable place where people can reach you to roleplay or combat you, then you'll be asked to move.

8.) OUT OF CHARACTER:
Statements made out of character is signified by speaking ((in brackets)). This is so your fellow players know what you are saying is not in character and helps minimize confusion between IC (in character) and OOC(out of character) statements.

Insulting, argumentative or those made in anger, stated OOC to other members of this community are completely PROHIBITED. If you have an issue that you feel requires the intervention of a mediator, contact a member of the B5 GM Team. Be reasonable about this. GM staff will not look kindly on vendetta like behaviour for personal reasons. Be prepared with logs of proof and a definitive account of the situation.
Vague accusations are unacceptable.

9.) HARRASSMENT/OOC:
After a battle the victorious party gloating or the loser complaining will not be tolerated. If there is a REAL issue consult a GM immediately otherwise keep it IC RP only. OOC insults and rude comments will result in disciplinary action. This includes negative comments or insults made in IMs as well as in the open. Be an adult about things, it is only a GAME.

Activities many regard as "evil" are typical in here. Slavery, rape, murder, theft and random violence.. Demons, vampires, lycanthropes, creatures from other planets, rapists, serial killers and similar creatures all roam the streets. This means that *characters* often act in aggressive, predatory, criminal and/or plain uncomfortable ways. This is to be expected given the nature of the simulation.

In-character protests often do not deter such activity because many *players* come to the sim looking for such things, regardless of what their *character* might want. If you do not wish to role play certain activities or with certain players then it is best to IM the other person out-of-character (OOC) and politely explain you are uncomfortable and find something you can roleplay that the both of you will enjoy.

10.) FADE TO BLACK:
If you need to log off or the RP is going in a direction that makes you uncomfortable or breaks one of your limits, you may Fade to Black (FTB). If you fade to black, you MAY NOT engage in combat again with the party for 24 hours.

Fading to black is NOT the same as voiding a scene. When you fade to black, you simply fast forward, skipping whatever portion of the RP that would make you feel uncomfortable, if not the whole scene. Your character is STILL EFFECTED BY THIS.

Fading a scene should be avoided at all costs, just as voiding should. Talk in IM's with the other people involved, compromise and remember that this is just RP. If you need to leave (log off) then you need to leave, but still, come to a compromise on what happened to your character in your absense and RP the effects the next time you log on.

Abusing the fade to black rule will result in disciplinary action. It is not a way to avoid having to do defeat RP. Keep in mind RP is for everyone, not just for you. By fading to black, you are taking away from other people's RP and in turn, people may not wish to RP with you as often.

11.) META-GAMING:
Meta-gaming is defined as: When a player has become aware of or told about information Out of character (OOC) pertaining to or directly regarding an ongoing storyline, situation or other player and then, by means of role play, uses that information either to their own benefit or as a means to interact with/against other players.

This is extremely aggravating for those of us who are trying to provide fun and possibly in-depth stories for the players and is therefore prohibited in the game.

12.) GOD MODDING:
Godmoding is when you limit the interaction of players by controlling the RP for your own design. Examples: Making your character invincible or godlike, emoting for the other player, and emoting doing something to the other player without giving them a chance to avoid or accept the action. Perma-death, Perma-injury, Perma-anything are all acts of GodModing.

13.) CORPSE CAMPING:
Definition: Waiting for a person to revive and defeating them again intentionally. A player must be at 100 Health before they are at Combat level Stats. Once a player has reached this level, they are fair game again. (Remember Natural Revives are not allowed to reenter combat.) If a player uses an offensive skill or attacks via range or melee, no matter their stats, they are fair game again. CCS defeating someone who is trying to flee is allowed.

14.) RP BASICS:

14.I. BEING IN BATTLE/RP:
Once you make a melee attack or shoot at someone including using an offensive skill, you are to consider yourself in combat. To be melee attacked or shot also initiates combat, as does the use of a defensive skill.

If you are using melee combat, you need to have an animation that shows your character attacking. You may not engage in melee combat without a visual indication that you are actually attacking.

14.II. ROLEPLAYING:
ROLEPLAY IS NOT REQUIRED, BUT HAVING AN IC REASON IS REQUIRED! RP does not need to occur before, during, or after combat, although it is highly encouraged! An IC reason for any CCS Attack is required and you must be prepared to cite a PLAUSIBLE reason if requested by the victim or GM.
REPEATED ATTACKS WITHOUT RP IS PROHIBITED. You will be asked to leave the sim.

14.III. RP-FIGHTING:
RP fighting can be used instead of CCS combat, but it's something that both parties need to agree upon beforehand OOCly. If someone doesn't agree to RP combat, they still have every right to kill you with CCS.

14.IV. AFTER BATTLE:
Any sort of combat is supposed to have a definite end. Fights are not supposed to go on endlessly as each side summons more and more reinforcements from factions and friends who are outside the sim doing other things or who just happen to get online.

The victorious party should not be subjected to endless rescue missions as captured players use all sorts of means to continually let friends, family and factions know of their predicament. Role playing defeat is not something to avoid but a means for your character to grow. Look upon defeat as a positive thing and use communication sensibly.

When you're defeated in CCS combat, it's just the same as if you were defeated in a long drawn out roleplay combat. With your health at 0, you cannot fight back anymore, not through CCS and not through roleplay. You are at the mercy of the victor.

15.) VISIBILITY DURING BATTLE:
Do not use any device that turns you invisible during combat. No devices or any items that make your avatar invisible are permissible during combat. This includes cloaking devices, gadgets that sink your avatar into the ground or any device that renders your avatar invisible to direct line-of-sight to another player.

16.) GOING NONCOMBATIVE (AFK):
Going noncombative is only allowed when you haven't been involved in any hostile roleplay or combat for at least 10 minutes.

If you need to go AFK while in any hostile roleplay or combat, the following rules apply:

- If you need to go AFK for less then 10 minutes, you shout in local '(( AFK for 10 minutes ))'. You turn your meter noncombative and step aside. After 10 minutes you can get back into the fight, regardless if you're back sooner. If you get back into the fight you shout '(( Back to RP ))' in local.

- If you need to go AFK for longer then 10 minutes, you're considered to be fading to black. Read the 'Fade to black'-section for more information. When you do this, you need to shout in local '(( FTB due to AFK for RL ))' and leave the sim.

- Going AFK during battle/roleplay is only allowed time per battle/roleplay. If you need to go AFK again after that, you're considered to be AFK for longer than 10 minutes. In this case the FTB-rule applies again.

17.) CRASHING AND METER BUGS:

17.I.CRASHING DURING COMBAT:
If you crash during combat, you need to go noncombative for 5 minutes as soon as you get back. Step to the side and shout '(( Out for 5 minutes due to crash ))'. After 5 minutes you shout '(( Back in after crash ))' and you can enter the fight again.

If you crash again, you're considered out of the fight and therefor fading to black. Read the 'Fade to black'-section for more information. When you do this, you need to shout in local '(( FTB due to second crash ))' and leave the sim.

Relogging will count as a crash.

17.II. METER BUG DURING COMBAT:
If you have a meter bug during combat, you need shout '(( Out for 5 minutes due to meter bug ))' in local. After that you can detach and reattach your meter. Go noncombative for 5 minutes and step to the side. After 5 minutes you shout '(( Back in after meter bug ))' and you can enter the fight again.

If you have a meter bug again, you're considered out of the fight and therefor fading to black. Read the 'Fade to black'-section for more information. When you do this, you need to shout in local '(( FTB due to second meter bug ))' and leave the sim.

18.) WEAPON STACKING:
Weapon stacking is not allowed, regardless of who you are or reason. You are allowed to use, at maximum one of these possibilities:
- Two one handed swords
- Two one handed guns
- One two handed sword
- One two handed gun
- One single handed sword and a single handed gun

Only one (melee) hud is allowed at once.

Anything else is NOT allowed. If you are caught weapon stacking, you will be subject to disciplinary action.

19.) CALLING FOR HELP/TELEPORTING OTHER PLAYERS DURING COMBAT:

Calling for help or back up is allowed while roleplaying in B5, and while speaking or shouting the help call in local chat is strongly encouraged to help enrich RP, it is NOT required.

Players engaged in combat or aggressive RP scenarios may NOT teleport other players into the sim. Help must arrive through the telehub.

20.) DEFEAT:

20.I. BEING BOUND & OR LEASHED:
If you're bound in an RP, you may not cut yourself loose unless you are abandoned . Another player must rescue you and rp cutting you loose. You need at least 3 lines of RP to cut someone loose.
If you are left alone by your captor and have not been cut loose, you may rp cutting yourself loose after 10 minutes. Be creative and use at least 3 lines of RP.
LEASHING: IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO LEASH A PLAYER WITH THE SOLE INTENTION OF DRAGGING THEM AROUND A BATTLEFIELD.
In this situation you must rp with your captive within a reasonable time limit (ie:5 minutes) or they will have every right to free themselves or to be freed by another player.
The captor must be engaged by the rescuing party either in rp or combat. It is unrealistic that a captor would allow a rescuer to just walk up and steal their victim.

20.II. MOVING WHILE DEFEATED:
Once you are defeated, you are defeated. You must wait till you revive naturally or get revived by a healer. You are not permitted to move unless you are being dragged or moved by another as part of a roleplay. Also a suggestion, try to turn off your AO while defeated so the Override standing animation doesn't confuse anyone.

21.) HEALING BEDS:
You may not re-enter combat after using a heal bed/poseball on the sim. Disciplinary actions will be taken if you misuse the healing bed/poseballs. After battle you can walk to the healing bed/poseballs and retalliate there. This is if you're not defeated.

22.) REVIVES:
During one on one combat, you should role play being hurt after you have been defeated. You should not immediately revive and attack someone, you should still RP being injured. If someone revives you, You should RP regaining your strength before you either run or attack again if left unbound.

EXCEPTION: in group combat scenarios a player can rejoin combat if they are resurrected by a healer and healed back to combat level statistics. Group combat is defined as having 3 or more participants making any action that involves them in a fight. i.e. use of Offensive, Support or Healing skills, attacking another party in the combat situation, etc.

Even if the revive is due to a timer, a racial skill, or if revived by another, if you are already RPing, your character bound or trapped, you should continue to roleplay the scene, not negate it because CCS decided to revive you.

23.) DEATH/ PERMANENT INJURY:
You can only inflict death or permanent injury with the consent of the other party.

24.) ROLEPLAYING LIMITS:
Roleplaying limits are things you find particularly disturbing to play out, something you just can't stomache doing, even in a fantasy setting. Your limits are your own and while everyone may not agree with them, you're allowed to have them.

However, they should be serious limits. You should not go into a dark RP sim and have NO DARK RP as your limit. Try your best to find the CCS sim that fits you closest and if your limits come up, work with that person to find a different RP that you'd both enjoy.

DO NOT agree to do a RP that you have a issue with doing and then complain about it later on. If you agree, then you agree and do not have the right make a issue out of it.

If you have a certain type of roleplay as a limit, you can't perform that roleplay on others. Let the person you are RP'ing with know your limits OOC'ly in IM.

You can have a maximum of 3 roleplaying limits. These should be in your profile somewhere. If you have more than 3 limits, the first 3 will apply.

25.) GM's ARE HERE TO HELP YOU:

25.I. REPORTING PROBLEMS:
Any issues, questions, instances of rules violations or any other problems can be brought to the GM staff. These are players with "GM" above their meter. Please be polite and straight forward with your issue so it can be addressed quickly. If you have a problem with a GM then bring it to the attention of Bennynatural Carter and Onagh Ashbourne.

25.II. OOC ACCUSATIONS:
Any accusations of cheating/metagaming/or any violation of any rule, must be brought to your faction head or a GM to be addressed. Do not make public accusations of cheating. Disrupting the game with OOC complaints in local chat will result in your temporary removal from the sim.

25.III. RESPECT THE GM's:
GM decisions are final. Respect the B5 GM's at all times.

25.IV. BEING BANNED:
If you truly do feel that you have been banned from Betelgeuse 5 unjustly or a GM was abusing their power, contact Sim Admins Onagh Ashbourne & Bennynatural Carter to try to resolve issue.
