Ravenhurst - THE MASQUERADE - (MUST READ)
If you would like to remain out of the Roleplay while exploring Ravenhurst, we have provided you with an observer's tag. This way, there will be no confusion by other players that you are just here to have a look around.
I. About Roleplay in Ravenhurst
THE STORY
Ravenhurst by Night - Back Story
CHARACTERS/RACES:
Ravenhurst - Allowed/Restricted/Forbidden Characters v1.6
We are also open to races and characters that are able to conform to the Masquerade, the time period, and the storylines. If you are in doubt about a character you would like to bring in please contact our storytellers group. If your character can disguise any outward manifestation of supernatural race (Ie Vampire fangs, neko tails and ears, demon appearance, horns, wings, red eyes, hooves etc.. ) – and have a reasonable set of abilities – likely this will be no problem at all. Due to the balance of the WoD environment, some obscure characters may require approval to play on the sim.

FACTIONS
Any and all Rping factions are welcome to visit and Roleplay. No permission is required to start or bring a faction to Ravenhurst. For permanent residence rental and prim allocation please see the GMs. In order to establish a faction, you need only have your own group, tags, and designated faction head who will be held responsible for the actions of the members.
PRIMARY ROLE PLAY STYLE:
World of Darkness Based. See link below for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Darkness
World of Darkness roleplay may be primarily described as "Masquerade" or hidden race. We do not claim to be pure World of Darkness, but most players and factions support this style.
Please be careful to be considerate of all roleplay styles regardless of whether they are WoD or not. We do hold the breaking of the masquerade to be a very very serious item, because of the severe impact to other players. In general, this should not be a common occurrence, and we may request that you work with a storyteller to ensure that the “breach” can be repaired. Please be aware that regardless of your RP limits – if you break the masquerade, your character *may* be permakilled (perhaps even by your own faction, for placing them at risk).
Take a little time to read up on your race, perhaps just on Wiki, to get the basics. The biggest thing is to avoid disclosure of your race in public, or to avoid disclosing others races. This is called "The Masquerade" and most races seek to avoid "breaking the masquerade".
JOINING THE ROLEPLAY GROUP:
This is a free open enrollment group designed to keep all rpers in the loop about special events, RP in progress, updates to sim and builds, meter information etc. We do not spam
on this group, and it is simply to keep visitors and routine players alike updated with critical information. You may search in groups for "Ravenhurst Roleplayers Group” or you may accept an invitation from the giver at the main tele- hub. Observer tags and rp info can also be found at the sim tele-hub (landing point)
You are welcome to wear a Group Faction tag. However if you do not come representing a faction, feel free to remove your tag completely. There is no need to wear the Role Play group tag.
II. SIM RULES
YOU MUST READ THESE RULES BEFORE CONTINUING ANY FURTHER. Ignorance or claiming you haven't read these rules is not a valid excuse.

- You agree that you are 18 years of age or older, and that you have legal majority during

that of Second Life, whereupon all Terms of Service (TOS and Community Standards ) apply. When an ad hoc decision of a member of the staff is challenged, you agree that you shall comply first. Any complaint may be brought to us via IM to GMS or Storytellers and thoroughly checked and judged based on the sim rules, the Second Life Terms of Service, Community Standards and common sense.
- NO CHILD AVATARS ALLOWED IN THIS SIM. CHILD AVATARS MUST AGE TO

++++++++++++++++++++++
ROLEPLAY RULES The Big… 13 (The dirty bakers dozen)
++++++++++++++++++++++
1. UPHOLD THE MASQUERADE: Ravenhurst - THE MASQUERADE - (MUST READ)
2. LIMIT OOC
(out of character talk) in open chat. Use IMs to avoid disruption and the feeling of being dis-engaged from the scene at hand. Please do use OOC chat via IM to discuss actions or events or to ask permission for skills to be used, or to exchange character sheets. OOC is not a bad word here. We just ask that only relevant OOC be shown in open chat (ex: ((BRB, Skip my turn)), however upon return ((BACK)), we should avoid each player in the scene sending a flurry of ((WB!!))
3. NO METAGAMING
Metagaming is the use of information (meta data) that you have not been able to
determine through RP. For example to know some ones race, their name, or to gain
information about the character from their profile, or from an OOC conversation would be
metagaming. When in doubt if you would know something in RP - ask the person via IM. (ie "would I be able to sense that you are a vampire?" or "Would I have a feeling that you might have powers?")
4. NO GODMODING/POWERGAMING
This is where in roleplay you assume abilities or powers that overwhelm the other players abilities. For example: "John Smith punches Jack in the mouth driving his head backwards into the wall. “this does not give "Jack" a fair opportunity to respond, and so it would be better phrased as "John Smith drives his fist powerfully towards Jacks mouth" which would give "Jack a chance to accept it, block it, dodge it etc. RP combat is mutual and requires two players to accept what makes sense for their characters in the context of the scene.
5. OBSERVE ROLE PLAY LIMITS
Read the other players Profile limits, or ask if you are not sure. Violation of this rule can lead to ejection and perma ban from the sim. If you do not have RP limits, its wise to dedicate a profile picks tab for this to avoid any problems later. (Exception: breaks of the masquerade, your permadeath limit may be tossed out with your bold, but unfortunate corpse)
6. FTB
"Fade to Black" means that you exit the scene either because RL calls, or you
are uncomfortable with the direction of the scene or the player. This should be used
sparingly, and after it is called, you need to come to an arrangement OOC that explains
your leaving so that the scene so that if need be, the rest of the participants can continue. The "Fade to Black" rule is not a way to avoid the consequences of a defeat. You may however in IM's come to an agreement that if you do not wish to participate in a particularly violent scene or something that may be against your normal limits, of any injuries you may have received had the scene played out. This is at your descretion.
7. RESPECT
Please be respectful to other players in your OOC discussions which surely would take place via IM. Our suggested recourse for players that find conflict in OOC, is to discontinue discussions if they cannot come to a reasonable settlement or compromise. We will not take action on protected confidential conversations. If discussions cannot be discontinued - there is a mute button provided for this reason by Linden Labs. (SL Terms of Service, IMS are not to be distributed or shared without consent of all parties)
8. APPEARANCE
Maintain a period av appearance. This is a modern day roleplay sim, not post apoc, or futuristic sim. Year is 2009. While we are rather flexible with various attire, please realize that avs such as Cyborgs cross the limits. Please keep in mind some semblance of reality when it comes to your attire in roleplay.
9. REZZING OBJECTS
Please rez objects in this sim only if it contributes to the role-play. All Rezzed objects must be removed immediately after use. Rezzing of unneeded objects or spamming objects may be considered griefing. If you need to rez a prop for an extended period of time (beyond the current scene) please advise the storyteller group, or a GM.
10. UNATURAL MOVEMENT
No Flying or Prim sitting (exceptions made for vendors and builds in progress.
Prim sitting is when you move your camera to a prim and then click sit - when you are not close to it, basically saving you a walk, or transporting you a distance away. The use of personal teleporting devices or the map to teleport to locations in the sim are also NOT allowed. You must be able to walk, normally jump, or use a grapple hook, or wall climb to get there. You may use a run or jump enhancers reasonably. This is a RP sim. There will be places you cannot get to for a reason, or without rp knowledge. If a location exists in RP, there is a way of getting there without prim sitting or flying. (ex: locked rooms, towers, locations underground, etc.. ) Renters are to use the official teleporters supplied or can set their home as needed to their apartments.
11. TOOLS / GRIEFING
No push, pull, cage, trap, deform or other devices or huds which impact avatars may be used without the consent of the players involved.. Any such tools may be considered griefing tools. If you need to use a tool for an effect, please be sure to ask permission from the other players if it impacts their av. Swift action will be taken for any use of tools without player consent.
12. NOTE CARDING
No sharing of personal IMS, including that of Roleplay without consent from all parties duly noted in the chat log containing the RP. Roleplay that takes place between two parties in open chat may be subject to the same regulation, and all parties should acknowledge their approval for the RP to be Notecarded and openly distributed if desired.
13. UNSPOKEN AND UNLISTED
OBVIOUSLY ALL SECOND LIFE TERMS OF SERVICE (TOS), AND COMMUNITY STANDARDS AS WELL AS STIPULATIONS SET FORTH THAT APPLY TO CONTENT FOR MATURE SIMS APPLIES. NO SIM IS ABOVE TOS OR COMMUNITY STANDARDS OR GUIDELINES SET FORTH FOR MATURE SIMS REGARDLESS OF RULES AND INFERENCES AND STATEMENTS BY OWNERS, STAFF, GMS, STORTELLERS, HEAD MUCKETY MUCKS, GRAND POOHBAHS, DARK LORDS, MESSENGERS OF THE LORD, OR EVEN <GASPS> THE GREAT TABBIE BLACKTHORNE.

Role-play Scenes:
++++++++++++++++++++++
We are a Mature role-play sim and all kinds of role-play is allowed with consent of both parties. We do request that scenes of a sexual nature in open chat take place in a more secluded area, or are moved to IM if needed in order to provide a compatible RP environment location for everyone. IE:
III. CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Character conflict is both inevitable and part of the game. There are several methods to resolve these engagements, and Ravenhurst does not maintain that any one particular system for resolution. Rather we encourage players to come to the best conclusion based on their own preferences and what the scene invites. Remember, OOC is not always a bad word, and in fact will be required in some cases during your roleplay experience particularly with conflict resolution.
Below are listed three distinct means for conflict resolution
FREE FORM:
This is when two or more players elect to rp their combat. The basic protocol is turn based posting, and where a poster may not assume that their actions have succeeded. Ravenhurst - Free Form Example
WoD DICE:
The dice system / protocol put forth by White Wolf Publishing. This type of combat requires a character sheet. For submittals or asssistance, please contact the storytellers group.

METERED COMBAT:

HOUSE RULES:
Faction houses get to name the conflict resolution method in their Haven/Domain. If you’d like to roll up into a faction’s haven, better plan on playing by their rules. Our players take their RP very seriously, and invest a lot of time and money into their RP and factions, so yes, that offers them the choice of preference if you decide to invade them…. Catch them out in the open, and it falls back to the norm (Talk it out and decide what the best way to proceed is)
